It depends on what causes the pain. For example, if a sharp tooth is causing pain, it can be smoothed and patients can leave the practice pain-free. However, if patients are suffering from an infection, antibiotics will be dispensed to alleviate the pain which can take from a few hours to a few days to be fully effective.
