Fillings

FAQs
We have a wide range of dental filling materials which are used to fill in the holes or gaps in the enamel of decayed, broken or damaged teeth. Patients can chose to have invisible fillings with our advanced Tooth-Coloured Fillings. These fillings blend seamlessly with your natural teeth ensuring your smile remains untouched.
What are the main filling materials? There are many materials that can be used however, the 3 main ones are: 1. Composite Filling. Composite resin fillings are made up of a mixture of plastic & glass powder. 2. Amalgam Filling. Amagam is usually thought of as silver filling. 3. Glass Ionomer Filling.
Can I choose the colour or material for my filling? Yes, you can share your preferences with us; we will ensure that our treatment is tailored to meet your expectations.
Am I required to have an anaesthetic (numbing) injection to have a filling? No. We would like you to experience an absolutely pain-free procedure however, if you prefer, you do not have to have an anaesthetic (numbing) injection.
Can I eat or drink after my filling? It will depend on whether or not an anaesthetic injection was used during the procedure. If an anaesthetic was used, then you should wait 2-3 hours for the effects to wear off before eating or drinking. In general, you should eat soft food for 2-3 days after the procedure.
Will my filling set immediately? As it will take time for the filling to set fully, it is recommended to have soft food for at least 2-3 days before chewing on the filling.
What are the rules after having a filling? Teeth may be sensitive to heat and cold for a few days after getting a dental filling. Your dentist will likely suggest that you avoid very hot or cold food and beverages. If the sensitivity does not go away in a few weeks, talk to your dentist.
What is the strongest filling for teeth? Ultimately, amalgam and gold are considered to be safe and the strongest options available however, this does not necessarily make them the best choice of filling material for your cavity.
What is Bonding Filling? Bonding Filling is a tooth-coloured filling material which the dentist adds to the edge of a tooth or over the whole front surface of a tooth to improve the appearance of teeth, including correcting the shape or colour of teeth, or to align them. If it is placed at the edge of teeth, it is known as Composite Edge Bonding. If it is placed on the front of teeth then it is referred to as Composite Veneer which may not require any drilling or injections. The procedure is fast and can be completed in only 30 minutes.
How long will the whole procedure take? It takes 20-30 minutes per filling.
