FAQs

How does Botox® reduce fine lines and wrinkles? Neurotoxin injections are shots that use toxin to prevent a muscle from moving for a limited time. These shots are often used to smooth wrinkles on the face by stopping your muscles from contracting and forming wrinkles. They are also used to treat neck spasms, sweating, overactive bladder, lazy eye and other conditions.

What would happen during the treatment? During a treatment session, we ask you to frown or scrunch up your face so we can see where the wrinkles and lines are most pronounced. Then, we inject a tiny amount of Botox® over 10 minutes.

Does Botox® hurt? The needle used to administer Botox® is so small that most people report feeling a slight pinch or stinging sensation.

Can I receive an anaesthetic before the injections? Yes, some people prefer to be numb before the injections however, patients should be aware that it prolongs the procedure by 30 minutes, and adds an additional £20.00 to the cost of the treatment.

Is the treatment permanent? The effects are not permanent. Most treatments last 4-6 months although this will vary between patients.

What is the difference between Botox® and fillers? Botox® and fillers are two different types of injectables which are both injected with a needle. The biggest difference between Botox® and fillers is that Botox® is used to reduce fine lines and wrinkles by paralysing the underlying muscles, whereas fillers fill in the wrinkles.

Can I see the results straightaway? Botox® injections do not work instantly however, most patients observe improvements in the appearance of their skin after just 3-4 days. Patients can expect to see the full effects around 14 ays after their Botox® injection(s).

Are there alternatives to Botox®? There are plenty of alternative treatments to Botox. Many new patients contact our practice wanting to have there lines and wrinkles treated but are not interested in Botox®. Alternative treatments offered at our practice include injections containing hyaluronic acid, such as dermal fillers and skin boosters, or energy-based treatments such as high-frequency ultrasound (HIFU), Radio Frequency (V Max) Radio Frequency Microneedling.

Who shouldn't get Botox®? Not everyone is a good candidate for Botox®. If you have a neuromuscular condition such as myasthenia gravis, you are taking certain medications, if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, in poor general health, your skin is very thick or you have existing muscle weakness in the proposed injection site, or if you suffer from mental health issues then you may not be a good candidate for Botox®.

What are the most common side effects of Botox®? The most common side effects of Botox® are pain, bruising, bleeding, tenderness, and/or redness.
